Flashback Friday: Photos from Anzac Day 2019 in Newcastle and the Hunter

Photos: Jonathan Carroll & Marina Neill

Thousands made their way to Nobbys Beach in 2019 to commemorate Anzac Day in Newcastle with a special dawn service.

City of Newcastle RSL Sub Branch president Ken Fayle lit the Anzac flame before lord mayor Nuatali Nelmes spoke of the struggles many servicemen faced immediately after World War I.

Anzac Day commemorations will look a lot different this year with coronavirus restrictions halting parades and services across the Hunter.

However, RSL NSW is encouraging the public to "show your ANZAC spirit" and remember the sacrifices of Australian service men and women in a slightly different, yet meaningful way.

Australians are being encouraged to walk to the end of their driveway or go to their balcony and listen to a brief commemorative service.

Will you be commemorating Anzac Day in a special way this year? Send your photos to betina.hughes@austcommunitymedia.com.au to have them included in our 2020 gallery.
