Flagship Leeds cafe for luxury doughnut brand popular with Love Island stars

Mouthwaterning doughnuts that have proven popular with members of the Royal Family and Love Island stars are coming to Leeds.

Project D's luxury sweet treats have been sold in Leeds on an ad-hoc basis for the past few weeks after the Derby-based bakery launched a delivery service for parts of West Yorkshire.

The trial has be so successful that the business has now confirmed plans to open a new flagship shop and cafe in the city.

Initially, the new base at Pottery Fields, Hunslet, will be used as a distribution hub, with 20 new jobs created for local people. However, it will eventually become Project D's flagship Yorkshire store, with a further 10 roles created when the cafe opens.

The flavours of the doughnuts are changed every six weeks, although there is always a vegan range available and some creations have proven to be big hits, such as the Homer ring doughnut with pink icing and sprinkles.

Project D co-owner Matthew Bond (Project D)

Co-owner Matthew Bond said: "We like to be really inventive and we completely change our range regularly so there is always something for customers to be excited about.

"We’re really looking forward to getting to know more people in Leeds and the surrounding areas – and hopefully putting a smile on their faces.

"We have been blown away by the reaction from customers in Leeds, our doughnuts have sold like hot cakes in the city and the enthusiasm has been even better than we expected.

"The new unit will initially act as a distribution hub which will mean we can extend the areas we cover – for example we’ve already moved our deliveries into Wakefield. We are moving into a significantly bigger bakery in Derby and our operation is round-the-clock to ensure that every single doughnut we sell is absolutely fresh.

"The long-term plan will be to transform the unit into a doughnut shop and café and we have loads of really exciting ideas about exactly what this will look like – we want it to be really unique and inventive to reflect the brand."
