Five things we noticed about the opening ceremony at Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium

Goosebumps when the lights went down

There wouldn't have been a Spurs fan inside the place without goosebumps down their arms as those lights first went down.

There was just a glow about the new stadium with only the subtle blue lights underneath the roof and the golden cockerel lit from below sitting proudly on top of the south stands, surveying everything below.

The fans felt the chills and responded with chants that reverberated around the stadium before the introductory video had even started.

Those flags

Some might think they're gimmicky and they certainly can be if overused, but on this occasions, as it was at the White Hart Lane finale, they were just right.

The sight of a rippling sea of white around the stadium as chairman Daniel Levy spoke about coming home in the video playing on the four giant screens was something special.

The music and the fans joining in

The theme of the opening ceremony was very much local with a nod towards the riots of 2011. The students of Gladesmore Community School sang Everybody Dreams, a song they produced one year on from the riots which got into the charts at the time.

They were fronted by Lanya Matthews, who certainly had a spectacular voice and her rendition of Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur had the fans giving her the backing of one enormous 62,062-strong choir.

She was joined by tenor and Spurs fan Wynne Evans and the two of them combined for a powerful duet.

That roar when the players came out

Their duet sandwiched the players emerging from the tunnel. They were met by the biggest roar yet heard in the new stadium and you wonder what the players made of it all, standing as the two powerful singers sang around them. This was different, even for the Premier League.

Fireworks

It all ended with a bang and a fizzle, the entire stadium roof erupting with a circle of fireworks before coming around and ending with fire around the giant cockerel, giant sparklers if you will.

Daniel Levy, with Joe Lewis alongside him, looked a very content man.
