Five Santa's Grottos in Edinburgh this year as the big man comes to the capital

The countdown to Christmas has begun, with children starting to get their lists for Santa ready.

And for those wanting to ask for gifts in person, there are plenty of Santa grottos around Edinburgh for the kids to choose from. However, ticket usually needed and these can often sell out fast.

Edinburgh's Winter Festival kicks off on November 25 and along with the Big Forth 1 Wheel and iconic Christmas markets, Santa Land will be returning in West Princes Street Gardens. And what would Santa Land be without the big man himself.

There are plenty of grottos popping up in the city, and of course Santa can be in two places at once - he's Santa!

Here are five places you can take your little one to see Santa this year.

West Princes Street Garden

As Edinburgh becomes a festive hub for visitors, West Princes Street Garden will be transformed into a magical Santa Land for this festive season. You can enjoy a wide range of family-friendly activities, including funfair rides and of course Santa's Grotto.

You can book a 30-minute slot to sit on Santa's lap, listen to his tale and receive a little gift. It runs from November 24 - December 24, then Santa has a big night ahead of him.

Edinburgh Zoo

Along with the animals, you can spot Father Christmas and Mrs Claus at Edinburgh Zoo.

Running from December 2 - 24, Santa’s Daytime Grotto is open on selective dates and includes a 10-minute slot to chat to Santa and receive an early festive gift. Admission tickets to Edinburgh Zoo must be purchased in conjunction with grotto tickets.

Dobbies Garden Centres

Dobbies has a number of events featuring Santa's appearance this December. From a Santa's Grotto experience for children to a festive family breakfast with games - there is an event for everyone.

Proving that Christmas isn't just for the kids, Dobbie's hosts Santa Paws experiences because our furry friends deserve a lovely treat from Father Christmas. That would make a happy day out for the whole family, indeed.

Book through the Dobbies website and it runs from 24 November – 15 December.

Craigies Santa Experience

Head to Craigie's farm for a day out with Santa's elves. This experience provides a whole magical adventure as you travel through three Christmas-themed areas listening to Mrs Claus' tales and helping out hard working elves at the workshop. You can grab a photo with them and choose a gift from the workshop too.

It runs from 10 – 23 December Book your tickets at the farm's website.

Ocean Terminal

Down in Leith, you can visit Santa at Ocean Terminal. Find Santa's grotto on the first floor balcony for a magical experience, unlimited photos and a little gift.

Relaxed sessions are also available for those who might require extra time and arrangements.

You can book from November 30.
