Five reasons why autumn is the best time to be in Glasgow

Glasgow's never been consistent when it comes to summer weather.

One day it's a wash out - the next, we're all burning to a crisp in Kelvingrove as we gather round a tinny BBQ we bought for a fiver at Tesco.

But autumn, that's where Glasgow truly comes into its own.

We can't help but get a wee bit excited when our city gets a bit of crisper and cooler.

Here's why we're looking forward to wrapping up warm and welcoming in autumn ...

1. Glasgow looks stunning

Fact. Granted, we like to see a bit of summer sunshine beating down on fair Glasgow - but can you really beat the bright reds and burnt oranges of Kelvingrove Park, Pollokshields, even the Necropolis, come autumn-time? Here are just a few examples of Glasgow looking brilliant as the temperature drops and the nights draw in …

2. No more ‘taps aff’ time

Granted, summer must be a cake walk if you live in sunnier climates. Should I wear sandals or trainers? Bikini or one-piece? Who cares - it’s roasting hot. But here in Glasgow, we have to contend with 20 degrees and pouring rain - taps aff, ponchos on.

The warmer months are a minefield when it comes to getting dressed in the morning and we’re fed up with it - bring on the hats, the scarves, the big and woolly winter coats.

3. Halloween is just around the corner

Ghost stories being told in one of the city’s most haunted locations. Ghost hunts - if you’re brave enough. Scary movies on the big screen. Hell, there’s even a Halloween Harry Potter fest happening. Glasgow knows how to do the spookiest time of the year, and do it well.

We can’t wait to get into costume and embrace the silly season, summer be damned.

4. And Bonfire Night

Itching to head to Glasgow Green all wrapped up and see some fireworks? Us too. Bring on Guy Fawkes Night - it’s a rare night here in Glasgow, and we can practically smell the sparklers (and the burger vans) already.

5. And all of it means we can cosy up in the pub

Cold places make for hardened drinkers - we don’t make the rules, we just escape the biting Glasgow wind and follow them. Right into the pub. The colder months are just an excuse to spend longer in Glasgow’s cosiest boozers, and we’re happy to oblige. Here’s our pick of places to hole up in when the weather turns bad. We’ll see you at the bar - and ours is a pint, ta.
