Five Potential Destinations for Real Madrid Star Eduardo Camavinga—Ranked

Once deemed an untouchable player at Real Madrid, midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is suddenly at the center of transfer speculation.

The France international, whose contract with Los Blancos runs through June 2029, has had a rough go over the last two years in a white shirt. Between several long-term injuries, playing as an emergency left back and the emergence of Castilla product Thiago Pitarch, Camavinga has fallen down the midfield depth chart.

Recent reports suggest the 22-year-old is unhappy with his lack of minutes under Álvaro Arbeloa and could be open to pursuing a transfer this summer, especially if the club follows through with its plans to sign a blockbuster midfielder. There is no shortage of interest in Camavinga, and several European giants could be willing to hand over at least $57.7 million (€50 million) to snag the Frenchman’s signature.

Here’s five potential destinations for Camavinga as he ponders his future at Real Madrid.

5. Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain were known admirers of Camavinga when he was lighting up Ligue 1 at Rennes as a teenager. The Frenchman ultimately chose to join Real Madrid instead of the Parisians, but the snub has apparently not dissuaded the club from reigniting its pursuit five years later.

Reports emerged that PSG joined the long list of suitors eyeing Camavinga this summer. Returning to his homeland to join one of the biggest and best clubs in the world seems like a great move for the 22-year-old, but the reality of actually breaking into Luis Enrique’s XI is a different story.

PSG’s midfield is a well-oiled machine. The trio of Vitinha, João Neves and Fabián Ruiz control the middle of the park for the defending French and European champions, leaving no guaranteed place for Camavinga in the lineup.

Suddenly, the midfielder could find himself in an eerily similar situation as the one he is trying to get out of—just another name in a star-studded squad, fighting for minutes.

Likelihood: 3/10

4. Liverpool

Liverpool are one of several Premier League clubs linked with Camavinga. The Reds might have had a record-breaking summer transfer window in which they spent around $595 million (£450 million), but they did not acquire a defensive midfielder.

The position did not appear in need of an upgrade after Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister established themselves as Arne Slot’s untouchable double pivot in 2024–25. Yet a steep decline in form for the Argentine could potentially force Liverpool to scour the market for a successor.

Camavinga, though, for all of his talents, is not the tempo-setter Slot would need if he does indeed move on from Mac Allister—or at least bring in some competition for the 27-year-old. He also is simply not a player who can control a match like Liverpool would want.

Likelihood: 4/10

3. Real Madrid

So, Real Madrid is not exactly a new destination. But it still remains an option—and a good one at that—for the France international this summer.

Despite his apparent frustrations with his lack of minutes, Camavinga is still a highly valued part of Arbeloa’s squad. The midfielder is a shoo-in when Los Blancos want a more defensively-sound lineup, and is always the first player inserted into the XI in the case of a midfield injury, which seem to pile up for the Spanish giants far too frequently.

Camavinga would also likely need convincing to leave his teammates. The youngster plays alongside fellow countrymen Aurélien Tchouaméni, Kylian Mbappé and Ferland Mendy, and also has a great relationship with Vinicius Junior.

Even if he does not lock down a permanent place in the XI by the end of the season, Camavinga could still be enticed to stay at the Bernabéu, chasing glory in a white shirt alongside some of the best players in the world.

Likelihood: 6/10

2. Chelsea

It’s no secret Chelsea love splashing cash every time the transfer window opens, and if previous acquisitions are any indication, they would not hesitate to lay down the fee required to bring a talent like Camavinga to Stamford Bridge.

Plus, the Blues could be in desperate need of a midfielder should Enzo Fernández follow through on his desire to leave west London at the end of the season. The Argentine has not been shy about proclaiming his admiration for Madrid in recent weeks, and a move would pave the way for a player-swap between the two clubs.

Not only would Camavinga help stabilize an inconsistent midfield for Chelsea, but he would also add some versatility to Liam Rosenior’s squad. Given the club’s poor injury luck and lackluster bench, the France international could serve as an emergency left back or winger should the need arise.

The only thing stopping the deal would be Camavinga’s potential reluctance to join a seemingly failing BlueCo project at Stamford Bridge.

Likelihood: 7/10

1. Manchester United

Manchester United will bid farewell to veteran midfielder Casemiro this summer, leaving the Red Devils in need of a replacement to slot in alongside Kobbie Mainoo moving forward.

The 20-time English champions are thought to have Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson at the top of their wishlist, but Camavinga’s potential availability could see Man Utd shift focus. After all, the Frenchman comes with over 200 appearances for Real Madrid and two Champions League titles at age 22.

Sure, Camavinga has no experience competing in the Premier League, but he fits the profile of a player who would thrive in the English top-flight. He is physical, athletic and superb defensively, while also possessing the passing range to help kickstart attacks or deliver elite service from the left flank.

With high expectations for next season that include Champions League soccer, Man Utd would benefit the most from signing Camavinga, who could be mainstay in the midfield for years to come.

Likelihood: 8.5/10
