Five people hospitalised after horror three-vehicle crash on A69 in Northumberland

Five people were taken to hospital following a horror three-vehicle crash on the A69 in Northumberland.

Emergency crews were in attendance on the A69 eastbound carriageway near Haydon Bridge following the crash which was first reported at around 2.30pm on Sunday (December 12).

Five patients were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital with minor injuries. The A69 closed in both directions and diversions were put in place between the B6318 and the A6079 near Hexham.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 2.30pm on Sunday, police received a report of a three vehicle collision on the A69 eastbound, near Haydon Bridge.

"Emergency services attended and the occupants of all three cars were taken to hospital with suspected minor injuries.

"The road was closed temporarily while emergency services were at the scene and the vehicle recovered."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 2.31pm to attend a road traffic collision on A69 near Haydon Bridge. We dispatched three ambulance crews, two rapid response paramedics and the air ambulance to the scene.

"We treated five patients on scene before taking them by road to hospital."

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) also confirmed that crews were at the scene.
