Five of the best Scottish lochside restaurants and bars with spectacular views

Combining a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach, there are few better places to eat than Scotland's lochside restaurants.

With access to incredible scenery and the freshest seafood, these venues can be some of the most pleasurable to eat in, particularly when the weather is good.

With expanses of beautiful water meeting with lush greenery of the nearby hills and Munros, you'll find a magic atmosphere that's ideal for good company and great food.

Stretching the length and breadth of Scotland, here are some of our favourite options when it comes to a spot of lochs shore dining.

Dores Inn, Inverness

Nessie spotters will be advised to check out the Highland welcome at the homely family-run Dores Inn.

Offering stunning views of the southside of Loch Ness, in summer, there are few better places to soak in the sunshine than the sun terrace while enjoying a spot of modern pub fayre and taking in the stunning views of the loch.

Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, Loch Fyne

This is one of the places to go in Scotland for the best oysters around, and that's before you take in the surrounding scenery.

This wonderful lochside restaurant, which began life as a small shed in a lay-by near the loch shore, lies close to the stunning Loch Fyne, with the long sea loch combining salt and fresh water to create uniquely flavoured oysters that will live long in the memory.

Duck Bay Marina, Loch Lomond

Duck Bay Marina (Phil Dye)

If you're located anywhere near Loch Lomond, you'll know all about this picturesque little restaurant and more than likely have fond memories of it.

Situated on the banks of the loch, the classic interior and outside seating offer unrivalled views while the expert chefs serve up some classic Scottish cuisine.

The Boathouse Restaurant, Loch Ness

Reminiscent of those lakeside resorts you find in the US and Canada, is another quaint little venue that sits on the shores of Loch Ness, in the picturesque canal town of Fort Augustus.

The classic wood-paneled interior pays homage to the building's humble origins that give its names and the menu here is filled with Scottish and Mediterranean dishes that will give you a warm glow.

Inver Restaurant, Strachur

Inver Restaurant (Ross Turpie)

The ever-popular Inver in Strachur is regularly considered to be one of the country's top restaurants and for good reason.

Found on the quiet shores of Loch Fyne, the former crofter’s cottage and boat store is known for its expertly curated menu that is chock full of locally sourced ingredients.
