Five more cases of coronavirus in Scotland brings total to 23

The number of patients who have tested positive for coronavirus in Scotland has risen to 23.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the five new cases today after a UK-wide COBRA meeting.

It has not yet been revealed where the new cases have come from.

Yesterday we reported the number of infections stood at 18 after a new case of coronavirus was identified in the Lothian region.

Lanarkshire also had two cases of disease confirmed.

Diagnoses have previously been reported in Tayside, Ayrshire and Arran, Forth Valley, Grampian and Fife.

Three cases of coronavirus in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde have been confirmed so far.

On Saturday, Scotstoun Sports Campus was closed after a person who uses the stadium was confirmed to have the virus.

And yesterday, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) urged the public not to remove hand sanitisers from Glasgow hospitals amid the growing outbreak.

A spokesperson for the health board said: "We are disappointed at reports of hand sanitiser going missing in hospitals. We would remind people that the most effective way of combating Coronovirus is through regular and thorough hand washing.

"We have good stocks of hand sanitiser throughout NHSGGC and would remind people that hand gel in our wards and public areas is there to protect our staff, visitors and our patients."

More as we have it.
