FIVE moorland blazes have broken out in and around Greater Manchester in 24 hours - this is everything we know

FIVE separate moorland blazes have broken out in and around Greater Manchester in 24 hours.

Flames have ripped through land between Diggle, Denshaw and Delph, near Saddleworth; Marsden Moor in West Yorkshire; and Tintwistle in Derbyshire.

Then, on Monday evening, flames were seen on the hills above Uppermill in Oldham; and in Shaw Moor in Stalybridge, Tameside.

Specialist wildfire units were drafted in to help the dozens of crews dealing with the incidents.

Helicopters were providing water air support to ground crews, scooping up thousands of gallons of water from reservoirs and dropping it onto the flames.

Thick smoke billowing smoke was seen rising high into the air above the hills on the Oldham/West Yorkshire border.

The fire between Delph and Denshaw, broke out just before 2pm today.

The blaze is not part of the Marsden fire, which, at one point, engulfed 300 hectares of moorland.

At around 11pm, five engines were scrambled to Shutts Lane in Stalybridge, Tamside.

A blaze around 150m by 100m had broken out.

Firefighters are attempting to beat the flames out.

Residents have been urged to stay away and keep windows and doors shut.

Earlier, at around 7pm, a fire broke out on land near Uppermill, Oldham.

Dramatic images shows flames tearing along the hills, with smoke filling the air.

The skies turned a deep shade of orange.

Fire chiefs, who deployed six crews to the scene, said they 'didn't anticipate that the flames will reach any properties'.

Residents have been advised to keep windows closed.

At 11.15pm, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "If anyone living near the ongoing wildfire in Uppermill are concerned, don't panic.

It looks bad but we are on top of it. The wind is now on our side and officers dealing with it have said they don't expect it to affect any properties, just please keep windows and doors shut."
