Five generations gather to celebrate Stonehouse woman's 90th birthday

A Stonehouse woman celebrated her 90th birthday with her extended family recently.

Five generations packed into McWhirter House care home in Larkhall to mark the special milestone with resident Margaret Johnson.

Joining the birthday girl were her son and daughter, Malcolm Graham and Margaret McInness.

The third generation of the family comprises Malcolm’s children Callum and Laura, and Margaret’s daughters Sheryl and Claire.

Sheryl has four children – Eilidh, Laughlan, Ruaraidh and Murren – while Claire has three – Nikkole, Kyle and Taylan. Nikkole’s children Brooke, Kameron and Emily.

And Margaret’s great, great-grandchildren – complete the family’s fifth generation.

Margaret was born in Allanton on April 18, 1929, and attended school in Newmains. She moved to Strathaven with her first husband, but was later remarried, to Arthur Johnson, and moved to Stonehouse.

She worked as a seamstress, and made soldiers’s uniforms at her workplace on King Street in Glasgow.

Afterwards, she worked as a cook until her retirement.

Sadly, Arthur passed away in June 2017. “Happy-go-lucky” Margaret has been a resident of McWhirter House for the past four years.
