A teenage girl who tragically lost her life in a crash near Brechin has been named as Kaitlyn Kyle from Arbroath. The 19-year-old was a passenger in a blue Vauxhall Corsa that collided with a Mercedes coach on the B9134 on Friday night. Heartbreakingly, Kaitlyn was pronounced dead at the scene. A 20-year-old man, who was also a passenger in the Corsa, died in the crash too.
The driver of the car, another 19-year-old man, was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious injuries, though thankfully they’re not thought to be life-threatening. He’s since been arrested in connection with a road traffic offence. Thankfully, no one aboard the coach was hurt in the collision, reported the Daily Record.
Tributes have been pouring in for Kaitlyn, with her cousin Hannah Archer leading the heartfelt messages. She shared: “Would like to inform everyone that my cousin Kaitlyn Kyle has passed away, she would have wanted her friends to know she cared about everyone so much so it’s only right that I take the time to let all her friends know.
“This is a very hard time for the family. She was so loved by everyone, such a bright, smart, beautiful young girl. I love you so much, Kaitlyn.”
Others who knew Kaitlyn have also spoken of their sadness. Katy Findlay said: “Kaitlyn was the most amazing girl in the world. Such a bright and inspiring person.”
Linda Rose added: “Kaitlyn was such a beautiful bright energy. She was a great laugh as a young girl and a wonderful cousin for you. Will be missed. Sending enormous love to all the family and friends. Hug each other tight, life is cruel.”
Police closed off the road overnight as they began their investigation into the tragedy, reopening it around 4am on Saturday morning.
Sergeant Steve Livesey, speaking on behalf of Police Scotland, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man and woman who died at this very difficult time for all. “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us.
“We are also asking anyone who was driving in the area at the time to check if they have dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation.” Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3004 of Friday, 25 April, 2025.
