First look inside Liverpool's state of the art £50million AXA Training Centre

Liverpool have released images of their sensational new £50million AXA Training Centre, which boss Jurgen Klopp has labelled "pretty much perfect".

The Reds officially moved into their new training ground this week after saying an emotional goodbye to the club's historic Melwood base.

Liverpool had planned to move into their new Kirkby base in the summer but construction on the facilities, which began in 2018, was halted following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Reds manager Klopp was a little wary of changing training bases mid-season, but decided the international break was the perfect time to execute the switch.

Klopp has long championed the idea of Liverpool having one large training base incorporating both the first team and youth set-up.

The German also had a big say on how the new 14 acre base would be laid out, with captain Jordan Henderson and James Milner also providing their opinons.

Klopp has labelled the training base "pretty much perfect" and is looking forward to working at the new facility.

"Today is a really special day for the team - it has been a long time coming," said Klopp.

"There has been a lot of steps, meetings with architects, designers, everybody! The facility is great and whoever has the chance to visit will be impressed.

"It is a wonderful building - you have everything you need now and for the future. It's pretty much perfect!"

Liverpool's managing director Andy Hughes added: "We started this project over two years ago, marking a significant milestone in the history of this great football club.

"After saying a fond farewell to Melwood last week, we are excited to be starting a new era at the club, bringing our First Team and Academy operations and facilities together on one site for the first time in history."

The facilities boast two large gyms, an indoor sports hall, a swimming pool and an extensive hydrotherapy complex.

A specialist sports rehabilitation, medical suites and dining areas are also available to players at the AXA Training Centre.

Kirkby also includes a dedicated TV studio and stunning press conference facilities.

Klopp is a big fan of the little-known sport paddle tennis.

And the new training base even features a court for him to enjoy playing the game alongside his assistant Pep Lijnders.
