First look at Alton Towers as it prepares to open to the public this weekend

Lockdown has been a difficult time for thrill seekers, but things are looking up with the reopening of Alton Towers this weekend.

The theme park was forced to close in line with government advice during the coronavirus pandemic, but the park is now opening under social distancing measures from Saturday.

The Staffordshire site has released new images showing how the park will look with new restrictions in place. They show the PPE being worn by staff members, as well as the social distancing in place on rides and the rigorous cleaning of each ride between sets of passengers.

The number of people allowed into the park will be restricted, while guests will be required to sit apart from one another on rides.

Face coverings are required on some rides, while there will also be thermometer checks upon entry. Guests are also required to book tickets ahead of their visit to the park.

Visit England previously confirmed that the park meets government guidance, meaning that the site has passed all the required checks and practices required to open. Most of the park’s outdoor attractions will be operational, with some indoor rides and attractions remaining closed.

Saturday is set to see the most significant easing of lockdown measures yet, with pubs and cinemas also given the green light to open.
