First glimpse of Meryl Streep filming ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ reveals she’s still got that icy Miranda magic

Meryl Streep has returned to her famous role as Miranda Priestly in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2‘, with the first photos of her on set emerging from New York City on Wednesday. The actress was seen wearing a tan trench coat, purple blouse, and brown leather skirt, complete with her character’s signature white pixie haircut.

According to Page Six, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2006 hit film will follow Miranda Priestly as she deals with changes in the magazine publishing industry. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this sequel, with many declaring they will definitely be seated for Miranda’s return. The story focuses on her struggle to secure advertising money from a luxury group, which is now run by Emily (Emily Blunt), her former assistant.

Streep’s appearance on set shows she hasn’t lost any of Miranda’s commanding presence, as she was spotted wearing stylish black sunglasses while portraying the Runway magazine editor-in-chief. The costume choices stay true to the character’s sophisticated style that made her famous in the first movie.

Cast returns with new faces joining the sequel

The film brings back the original stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. New additions to the cast include Kenneth Branagh as Miranda’s husband, along with Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, and B.J. Novak. The movie is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026.

Anne Hathaway, who plays Andy Sachs, has already been seen filming around New York City. This marks a significant change from her previous hesitations about a potential sequel, when she expressed doubts about whether lightning could strike twice. She caught fans’ attention by posting a TikTok video wearing a cerulean blue sweater, referencing a memorable scene from the original film. Sources say “Cerulean” might be the code name being used during filming in New York City.

Hathaway’s character has been spotted in various fashionable outfits during filming, including a Gabriela Hearst maxi dress, a denim coverall from Re/Done’s Ford collaboration, and a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier outfit combining a vest and trousers.

In previous interviews, Streep has been open about how challenging it was to play Miranda Priestly in the first film. She told Entertainment Weekly in 2021 that she found the experience difficult because she stayed in character even when not filming. She explained that she was interested in showing the pressures of Miranda’s position rather than creating a direct copy of Anna Wintour, the Vogue editor who reportedly inspired the character.
