First Dates' Merlin Griffiths flooded with fans' support as he issues cancer update

The barman from popular Channel 4 show First Dates, Merlin Griffiths, has provided loyal fans with a health update after receiving treatment for bowel cancer. Merlin, 47, who first appeared on the programmed 10 years ago, was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in September 2021 and since then has been open and honest with his followers on his journey with the disease.

In a recent Instagram post, he shared some wonderful news with his supporters in which he revealed that, after his one-year colonoscopy check up for bowel cancer, he is "clear".

It comes just three months after the First Dates star, who also owns his own pub, shared pictures ahead of the final phase of treatment and recovery from bowel cancer.

Posting a series of images of two images of himself in a hospital gown and his positive results which stated "No cancer seen", Merlin wrote: "Scroll across... 1 year colonoscopy check up for #bowelcancer.

"Prep was soo difficult this time. Soiled the bed several times overnight, resorted to adult nappies, got about 2 hours kip. Felt like hell. First one with my newly connected arse too (sans rectum), so I was a little nervous.

"But along with my last blood tests (clear), at one year examination, we're clear! Phew. Next one at 3 years (2025). Last one at 5 years (2027)."

He added: "Love to all you fellow bowel cancer peeps, keep on keeping on!"

His comments section was soon flooded by messages of joy at this great news, with many sharing their own experience at this milestone.

Fred Sirieix, who is the maître d'hôtel of First Dates' restaurant, wrote simply a heart emoji while Austin Ventour said: "You’re a legend Merlin never forget that".

User @janenewell24 added: "Great news - your honesty and frankness is a credit to you" alongside @bloomingthyme4 who penned: "Great news, so glad that you are doing well! Just waiting on my 12mth colonoscopy and scan, not looking forward to the prep but a necessary evil."
