Firefighters race in as roof of four-storey building bursts into flames in Leeds

A building fire in Leeds has prompted a huge emergency response in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters were called at 3.28am to Sheepscar Street North after a four-storey burst into flames.

Crews from Leeds, Killingbeck, Hunslet, Cookridge and Moortown attended as well as the aerial ladder from Bradford.

The fire has been successfully extinguished but crews will continue to monitor the scene today.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 3.28am in the early hours of this morning to Sheepscar Street North, Leeds.

"There was a building fire in a four-storey building, with the roof area involved in flames.

"We sent several crews, two from Leeds, two from Killingbeck, two from Hunslet two from Cookridge, a crew from Moortown and the aerial ladder from Bradford."

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed yet.
