Firefighters called to tackle a suspected fire in the roof their own headquarters

Firefighters were called to a suspected fire in the roof of one of their own buildings in Salford.

Crews were called to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's headquarters on Bolton Road, Pendlebury on Saturday evening.

Firefighters found smoke coming from a solar panel in the roof, though it was not alight.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were alerted by an automatic fire alarm at our headquarters at 6.20pm on Saturday.

Firefighters used an aerial platform to investigate the smoking solar panel (ASP)

"When crews arrived there was smoke coming from the roof. This turned out to be a piece of equipment attached to one of the solar panels in the roof, which had melted.
