Firefighters called to bonfire of rubbish

Firefighters were called to an abandoned Old Sodbury bonfire and gave advice to locals.

One crew from Yate fire station attended Commonmead Lane after reports of an unattended rubbish fire at 9.51pm on Sunday (March 29).

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On arrival, firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"Following the incident, firefighters gave bonfire safety advice to local residents."

Yate Fire Station tweeted: "#yateoncall were called to an unattended rubbish fire last night.

"Even during these uncertain times, Avon Fire and Rescue Service will attend all fire calls."

In other firefighting news, Avon Fire and Rescue dealt with a loose swan "defying quarantine" on the M5 yesterday (March 30).

Firefighters from Weston-super-Mare were sent, along with other agencies, to rescue the bird.

On Twitter, a spokesperson for the fire service said the rescue was "an M5 incident with a difference".
