Fire rips through Dundee block of flats leaving one man hospitalised

Fire crews are still at the scene of a Dundee blaze which left one man hospitalised.

Officers rushed to the city's Ballantrae Place on Tuesday evening.

The alarm was raised just before 6pm.

Crews battled the inferno which ripped through a block of flats in the area.

One man was taken to hospital.

His age and current medical condition was not confirmed by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage but police are not treating the inferno as suspicious.

Nobody else living in the block of flats, or surrounding area, had be evacuated from their homes.

A spokeswoman from SFRS confirmed the incident to the Record on Wednesday morning.

She said: "We were called to a fire at a block of flats in Ballantrae Place at 5.59pm on Tuesday.

"Four appliances went to the scene.

"Two appliances remain at Ballantrae Place this morning.

"One man was taken to hospital.

"We have no information on the cause of the fire."

Police Scotland also confirmed the incident.

A spokeswoman from the force told the Record: "Police were called at 6.05pm on Tuesday to Ballantrae Place in Dundee after reports of a fire at a block of flats.

"Emergency services attended and one male occupant was taken to hospital for treatment.

"No other properties had to be evacuated as a result of the fire.

"The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

"Ballantrae Place remains closed this morning."
