A person was rushed to hospital and more than 500 people were evacuated following a fire that broke out at a west London school.

London Fire Brigade firefighters were called to Rabbsfarm Primary School in West Drayton at around 12.15pm on Thursday following reports of a rooftop fire.

The blaze affected part of the roof and a number of solar panels, resulting in the evacuation of around 550 pupils and staff before the fire service attended the scene.

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters from Hayes, Hillingdon, Feltham and surrounding stations were called to the incident.

The LFB said the fire was under control by around 2.05pm but advised people to avoid the area.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

A London Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 12:30pm today (16 July) to reports of a fire at Rabbsfarm Primary School, Gordon Road, W5.

“We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer.

“We treated three patients at the scene and took one to a local hospital”.
