FinTech Wales launches new pitch initiative for start-ups to raise finance

The body established to support Wales' growing fintech and financial services sector will hold its first pitch event for start-ups seeking growth finance and expert support next month.

FinTech Wales, the not-for-profit independent membership organisation, will hold its inaugural Pitch Club event at Tramshed Tech on December 2, in an event sponsored by Cardiff Council.

FinTEch Wales has invited five start-ups to pitch to an audience of potential investors and mentors.

They are:

  •  Taxod, an end to end accounting solution for freelancers.
  •  220, a private bank for influencers.
  •  Lyng ,an app to hold all of your bank accounts and cards.
  •  Pension for Pennies , a round-up app for your pension.
  • Disberse, a digital bank built specifically for aid organisations.

Gavin Powell, general secretary of FinTech Wales, said: “This event is an important one in the FinTech Wales calendar as one of our key goals is to make Wales  best place to start and grow a fintech company. To do this, FinTech start-ups need the right investment and mentoring, at the right time.

“With the expertise we have on the FinTech Wales board, we will bring together key angel investors, business leaders and institutional investors from Wales and beyond to meet a select group of early stage startups, offering them support, guidance and capital. We can’t wait to see what comes from the Pitch Club, and we’re looking forward to holding many more.”

Ben Joakim of Disberse, who will be pitching at the event, said: “Wales is a great place to start any business, and we have a growing fintech industry, but accessing the right investment can be challenging.

“Events such as this organised by FinTech Wales are so important for early stage companies looking to grow. There is money and support in Wales, but when it comes to scaling up, we may need to look beyond Wales.

“I’m looking forward to sharing our story and plans for growth at the Pitch Club, and to meeting some future investors”

FinTech Wales brings together entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes, as well as technology suppliers, innovators, universities and public sector bodies.

The association has established an advisory board of 20 people including representation from Welsh companies such as Credas, Confused.com, Admiral, Principality Building Society and Capital Law.
