Film Weekly feels the love with Blue Valentine's Ryan Gosling

It's a Ryan special this week, as Jason Solomons meets actor Ryan Gosling to discuss his performance in Blue Valentine, a complex tale of love and loss in which he stars opposite Michelle Williams, who's also been Golden Globe-nominated. Gosling discusses his past work, comes up with a surreal David Lynch story and an uncanny impersonation too.

The second Ryan is director Ryan Fleck. Along with his partner, Anna Boden, he has been behind three acclaimed films in the last five years from the brilliant Half Nelson, which earned Gosling an Oscar nomination in 2007, to a tale of immigration and baseball, Sugar (2008), and now It's Kind of a Funny Story, which tells of a troubled teen who finds redemption and love in a psychiatric ward.

In Jason's absence (he's on paternity leave), Xan Brooks is joined by Catherine Shoard to review some of this week's releases including Hilary Swank in Conviction and Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet.
