Fifty-two-year-old Simple Simon left face down on canvas by Ed Matthews in brutal KO

Ed Matthews needed just 48 seconds to knock out 52-year-old Simple Simon and settle their bitter grudge.

Matthews and Simple Simon have been rivals for several years and finally got the opportunity to settle their scores after being separated several times during the fight week build-up. The pair shared a significant age gap with the younger star Matthews looking to bigger things after his "warm-up" bout.

A raucous crowd saw Matthews make his walk to the ring with a vocal provided by his best friend and high-profile star HS. A 33-year age gap plagued the fighters from the start with Matthews clearly the more pumped up prior to the opening bell.

The younger fighter started the better and cemented his dominance from the opening bell with powerful punches reigning in from the opening bell. He made his breakthrough with his rival sent splattered down to the canvas in the opening round.

Simple Simon failed to beat the count and the referee ended the fight with just seconds gone in the bout. The older rival required medical check overs after the final bell with the staff attending to him after he was sent to the floor.

Matthews was delighted with his performance and saluted the crowd during his post-fight speech. "Yeah I am feeling alright fair play to Simon for stepping in and you can't help but respect that," Matthews said after the fight. "I knew I would knock him out first round, this isn't a joke to me I am serious in this boxing game and I love it.

"I weren't even thinking about the fight, I am in this game for the long run. F****** Gib come and fight me or Bryce Hall, who is the lucky guy that gets to fight me? I love you all."

Simple Simon was left face down on the canvas and it looked bleak for the star who lasted just seconds in the opening stanza as many predicted. However he was defiant after the result was announced and vowed to return stronger. "I didn't do what I was told and that is what happened," Simon said after the fight.

"Let's see how I feel first before I talk about a plan. He came up to me afterwards and shook my hand and as it comes to me it is settled. I am not making any excuses about the fight, he was just better."

There was a huge storyline prior to the fight with both men eager to prove themselves. Matthews could now see a whole host of challenges after his quick-fire performance, having called out AnEson Gib and Bryce Hall prior to the victory.
