Festive joy for parents as Christmas Day babies born in Dublin

Santa Claus dropped off extra special gifts to three lucky couples who celebrated the birth of Christmas Day babies in Dublin.

The Rotunda Hospital which is Ireland’s busiest maternity hospital was delighted to announce that the first Rotunda Christmas Day baby of 2022 was born at 12:00am. A hospital spokeswoman confirmed to Dublin Live that one of the first newborns to arrive in the country was baby Amela Szharadeh, who was born to parents Natalia and Pawel.

Baby Amela was born just seconds after midnight on Christmas Day and weighing in at 1.69lb. Another set of delighted parents at the same facility were Orlagh Bailey and Harry Heuston, who welcomed a baby girl who they plan to name Sophie at 12:45am.

The adorable baby girl weighed 8.3lb when she was born.

A baby boy was born to mum Caroline Shannon at 1:15am in the Rotunda Hospital. The bouncing baby boy, who is yet to be named, weighed 8.2lb when he was born at Ireland’s busiest maternity hospital.

Last Christmas, there were 89 babies born on Christmas Day 2021, of which 51 were boys and 38 were girls, according to the Central Statistics Office.
