Banks: Spanish bank Santander has announced it will create 400 call centre jobs in the UK, reports the BBC. Liverpool will get 200 of the call centre jobs with 100 in both Leicester and Glasgow. The new jobs are in addition to 600 branch-based roles announced by the company in July. The call centre roles are intended to support the business generated by the bank's push into the UK market, reports the Independent.
Customer service: More good news for those looking for a call centre role — supermarket giant Tesco's mobile phone division, Tesco Mobile, is set to create 160 jobs with a new customer service centre in Runcorn's Preston Brook. The call centre will handle enquiries for both its pay-as-you-go and pay monthly business enquiries, according to the Liverpool Daily Post. Those who fill the vacancies will be based at the offices shared with mobile operator O2 at the site.
Retail: Retail giant Debenhams will create hundreds of temporary jobs for the festive season, reports the Press Association. A total of 9,000 posts are being created — an average of 56 jobs at each of the company's 160 outlets. All of the jobs will be part-time, running from November to January, with flexible shift patterns. Roles available range from stock handling and general sales advisers to gift adviser roles, which require special training.
Mobile: A US firm which designs and makes protective covers for smartphones and handheld devices is setting up its Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters in Cork. Otterbox will create 50 new jobs, including roles working in customer service, in-house sales, accounting, engineering, public relations, marketing, web design, graphics, HR and warehousing. The new jobs will come on stream over the next two years, according to RTE Business.
Manufacturing: Up to 400 new jobs are to be created at a factory building foundations for offshore wind farms, reports the Independent. TAG Energy Solutions' £20m facility in Teesside, north-east England, will create 100 jobs with the initial phase of the development. A further 300 jobs are expected to follow.
IT: Software auditing firm iQuate is planning to create 25 new jobs in Ireland over the next 12 months, according to the Irish Times. The Dublin company is looking to fill roles in software development, implementation, project management and sales.
