Fern Britton speaks honestly about This Morning after Phillip Schofield 'feud'

Former This Morning host Fern Britton has spoken honestly about her time on the show after reports of a "feud" with Phillip Schofield.

Fern, 61, was replaced by Holly Willoughby back in 2009. Her former co-host Mr Schofield sensationally quit the show back in May, and he and Fern's "feud" again hit headlines that week amid reports his friendship with Holly had become strained.

Days later Mr Schofield quit all his ITV shows after admitting to an affair with a younger male colleague.

According to Mirror Online, in his autobiography, Life Is What You Make It, Mr Schofield said he argued with Fern in a makeup room over the content of a show and was surprised when she accused him of "meddling". He said: "I walked back into the makeup room and calmly said, 'Please don't do that to me again.'

After her exit, reports emerged that Fern left because Mr Schofield was being paid more than her. However, Fern shot these rumours down in an interview on The Ray D'Arcy Show in 2020.

She said: "I began not to enjoy it so much and the morning I resigned, I didn’t know I was going to resign. Something happened and I thought, “That’s it really” and I walked away and resigned.

"I was treated pretty poorly, actually. And after a while I just thought, 'Sod it'."

She added: "There was also a persistent rumour that I left because Phillip was being paid more than me and I always say to people, “Why would I leave a show to go to nothing if I was worried about money?”’

In a new interview with Good Housekeeping Fern has spoken honestly about her time on This Morning. She said: "I don’t think I’d be able to turn the clock back; it wouldn’t work that way.

"'My time at This Morning was marvellous and I adored the 10 years I was there, but I feel you should never look back."
