'Felt we were' - Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton gives verdict on Reading draw

Chris Hughton was happy with a point as Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw at home by promotion-chasing Reading.

The visitors had hit the post in the first half through Lucas Joao but the Reds took the lead after the break when Tom Holmes lashed into his own net.

But that sparked a fierce response from the Royals, who again hit the woodwork through Andy Yiadom after George Puscas had smashed over the bar.

Forest had held firm but their resistance was finally broken when Joao picked out substitute Yakou Meite, who fired beyond Brice Samba nine minutes from time.

The point halted back-to-back defeats for Forest, against Watford and Luton, and boss Hughton was happy to see out a strong finish from the visitors.

“We had a period where I felt we were going to hold on,” he said.

“They made changes, are a very offensive team with a lot of good players.

“But we were always in the game. It ebbed and flowed.

“We had decent periods. They probably looked more threatening with the players they have got.

“But at one stage I thought we were going to win it.

“I thought we were going to stay strong, but they have got such quality.

“When you finish a game like this sometimes you’ve got to appreciate, with the quality they have in front of goal, it’s another game where we haven’t conceded a lot of goals.

“It’s another game where we have not really conceded a lot of goals and keeps the run going in that respect.

“But the next part is can we go on to win these games?

“I think the overriding feeling is we are happy with the draw.”
