'Feels like the outsider' - Everton fans all say the same thing about Marcel Brands exit

Everton supporters have been reacting online following the news that Marcel Brands has left the club.

The Blues’ director of football is departing Goodison Park as the pressure continues to grow on Rafa Benitez and the club’s board of directors.

Brands was appointed to the role of director of football at Everton in May 2018, replacing Steve Walsh, who was sacked following the end of the campaign.

The Dutchman’s departure comes just seven months into the three-year contract he signed back in April, with Everton currently a couple of places above the relegation zone.

And reacting to the news on Twitter, many Blues are not surprised by the Dutchman’s exit, but believe questions need to be asked of the club’s board.

Brands, who was appointed to Everton's board of directors in January 2019, has overseen major changes to the club's scouting and recruitment department and the club’s Academy.

Speaking on Brands’ new deal back in April, chairman Bill Kenwright said: “There hasn’t really been any doubt for some time that Marcel and I would sit down and agree a new contract.

"With Farhad’s blessing it took us around about one play of Z Cars to reach an agreement.

"As well as being terrific at his job, Marcel has an excellent working relationship with Carlo and with our CEO, Denise and myself and it was important to maintain the structure and stability we have put in place over recent years.

"Farhad and I both wish our leadership team success and happiness as we all work together to build an exciting future for our great club.”
