Fears that a prisoner will 'stick a blade in' jailed former garda Paul Moody

Threats have been made against jailed former garda Paul Moody with a number of fellow inmates reportedly out for his blood, Irish Sunday Mirror has learned.

It’s understood the domestic abuser is on the segregation wing of the Midlands Prison as there are fears another prisoner will “stick a blade in him”. The 42-year-old was jailed for three years and three months for a campaign of terror on his former partner who was ill with cancer.

A source told Irish Sunday Mirror how Moody, who works as a cleaner on his wing, is target number one for a lot of prisoners who not only hate him because he is a former cop but also for the litany of abuse he gave his victim. The source said: “Moody is cocky and has an attitude.

“He is in the segregation unit, which is the best place for him. Some other inmates would do anything to get their hands on him and either cut him up or stab him with a blade.

“That’s down to him being a former guard and arresting people, some who no doubt probably ended up in jail. They see it as payback. That, mixed with what he did to that poor woman and his cocky attitude, lend to him being a perfect target. Every measure is being taken to guarantee his safety.

“Nobody who would be deemed a threat is allowed anywhere near him. He’s working as a cleaner on the seg wing and goes about his business. Prison bosses will do everything in their power to stop anyone getting close enough to him to attack.”

The source added: “There is still a likelihood he will be moved to Arbour Hill Prison in time but not straight away. It would be deemed as a safer jail for him as there are other jailed former members of An Garda Siochana there.”

Moody could be released by the end of 2024 with standard remission. After his sentencing hearing in July, his brave victim, referred to as Nicola in court, spoke out about the pain and suffering she had endured at his hands.

The court heard how during one 14-hour period, Moody sent her 652 messages, one every 90 seconds, describing her as “riddled with cancer”.

Twisted Moody, who assaulted her and stole her cancer medication during his hateful campaign, told her he hoped she would “get raped and bleed” on holiday.
