Chef’s special of sweet/sour crispy fish at Oriental Dragon, Cleveland Street, with my Chinese food-loving grandson Rafferty.

Mark Jarvis and Xavier Rousset are guiding the food and wines at Marylebone’s Gunmakers. Lamb rump and Marsannay (particularly) are good, but piling chairs on tables at 10.15pm to make us leave is not.

Ember Yard’s sleek new look is bolstered by membrillo-glazed pork ribs with spring onion, hazelnuts and smoked chilli jam. Delish.

30-egg yolk tagliolini with Vacche Brune Parmigiano, butter and black truffle – rich as Croesus ​– at Lina Stores Kings Cross.

Flights of kites at Masala Zone Soho celebrate Makar Sankranti, the festival marking the end of winter solstice, the start of longer days (hooray). I particularly relish Mewari vegetable kofta in silky spiced cashew and yogurt sauce.
