Father becomes online hit after continuing to eat chips when fight breaks out in kebab shop

A 52-year-old father has found online fame after he kept calm and carried on when a fight broke out around him in a kebab shop.

Chris Hill became a meme star after continuing to tuck into his chips when a brawl kicked off close to him at Ken's Kebabs in Albert Road, Portsmouth, on Friday.

Mr Hill said he had popped in the takeaway after a night at the pub when the incident unfolded.

He described how he saw a man and shop worker "throwing things at each other" before a "tall guy kicked the food counter".

Moments later, the fight escalated into a huge brawl involving several members of staff and customers.

Mr Hill refused to let the incident ruin his evening and continued to eat his food while listening to the radio.

"I thought about moving at one point but I was enjoying my kebab and chips... although the chips weren't very nice," he told MailOnline.

In footage posted on Twitter, a young man wearing a grey top hurls abuse at a worker, who retaliates by throwing a pair of tongs at him.

Employees then rush forward to help.

One kicks a man wearing a blue-jacket, before putting him in a headlock and trying to push him outside.

At the doorway, the other three surround the man in the grey top, who continues to swear and shout, as he punches two of them in the face.

Meanwhile, Mr Hill continues to eat his food while watching the fight.

The father has inspired a series of memes in response to his chilled out reaction.

One Twitter user wrote: "This man continuing to eat his food is my energy."

Another joked how important social media was in their life said the brawl was like their responsibilities and family and friends while Mr Hill looking at his phone was Twitter.

Meanwhile, journalist Caitlin Moran wrote: "This now-viral fight in a kebab-shop makes me feel ... oddly patriotic?

"Someone throwing a parsley garnish. The Firth-on-Grant-level fighting. And, of course, the man who just keeps eating his chips."

Police were not called to the incident.
