Father and son who died in OceanGate Titan returned as ‘slush in boxes’

  • Christine Dawood, mother of Suleman Dawood and wife of Shahzada Dawood, revealed that the remains of her loved ones, who died in the Titan submersible disaster, were returned as "slush in two small boxes".
  • Businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son Suleman Dawood, 19, were among five people killed when the OceanGate vessel imploded during its journey to the Titanic wreckage in June 2023.
  • Ms Dawood recounted receiving the DNA-tested remains from the US Coast Guard, noting there was not much left to identify individually.
  • She expressed relief that her husband and son did not suffer, believing the implosion was instantaneous, and stated she chooses not to be angry with OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush.
  • A US Coast Guard report concluded the disaster was preventable and attributed it to the negligence of Rush, who ignored critical data.
