Farage accused of ‘vile homophobia’ after comment about relationships

  • Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has been accused of "vile homophobia" after claiming that the "most stable relationships, the ones that last the longest, tend to be between men and women".
  • Mr Farage made the comments during a press conference welcoming former Conservative MP Danny Kruger to Reform UK.
  • Mr Kruger previously said that marriage between men and women was "the only basis for a safe and successful society".
  • Mr Farage said that children with two stable parents have “a better chance in life” and that the relationships lasting the longest "tend to be between men and women", but said he is not “absolutist”.
  • Labour MP Nadia Whittome criticised Farage's remarks, calling them "vile homophobia" and suggesting he aims to "re-open settled debates on gay marriage and adoption" to stir up hatred.
