Many Leeds United fans were excited at the thought of watching their own Kalvin Phillips on Channel 4's Celebrity Gogglebox last night.
However, they were ultimately left disappointed as Phillips' appearances were fleeting and his words were few.
In fact, the only full sentence which the Leeds and England midfielder said on the show was when watching Countdown. He asked, "is that eight times? That’s got to be eight times," on hearing a contestant on the show was competing to become the 'Octo Champ'.
When the word, 'picrate' was played in one of the early Countdown rounds, Phillips questioned the meaning of the word, asking, "what?"
Away from Countdown, Phillips expressed shock and confusion as he and rapper, Aitch watched David Attenborough's 'Mating Game'. The Yorkshire Pirlo was particularly surprised to discover that flatworms have two-pronged penises, and exclaimed, "huh?" as Attenborough described a scene that showed two flatworms engaging in an aggressive form of mating.
Phillips and his friend Aitch seemed to enjoy considerably less screen time than fellow participants and some Leeds United fans were obviously disappointed.
On Twitter, user @lilmissm1984 expressed her wish to see more Kalvin in future episodes of Celebrity Gogglebox, tweeting "more air time next time please."
Another, @ajm1991 said Phillips had been 'done dirty' as he'd 'hardly been on'.
The midfielder was included in the show after his influential performances for England during Euro 2020 that catapulted him into the wider consciousness of the nation. His assist for Raheem Sterling and man of the match performance in the opening game against Croatia saw media focus on the Leeds star in a brand new way, with many England fans taking the midfielder to heart in a similar way to those at Elland Road.
It's unclear why he was afforded such a fleeting cameo on last night's Gogglebox, hopefully plays more of a starring role v Southampton later today.
