Family to celebrate the life of 'beautiful princess' Lexi McDavid

Family and friends of a young girl who died after being hit by a van, will come together to celebrate her life.

Lexi McDavid, 12, died after being hit by a white Mercedes van as she got off a bus on Princess Drive in Huyton on Tuesday, June 7. Emergency services were called to the scene, at around 3.30pm, and Lexi was rushed to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where she died a short time later.

Bouquets of flowers, candles and written tributes have been left at the scene of the crash on Princess Drive. One of the tributes, written on a wooden box filled with white and pink roses, reads: "Love you baby girl. Miss you so much Angel."

Now, family and friends have arranged a balloon release 'in loving memory' of Lexi. Balloons will be released on Princess Drive at 4pm on Sunday, June 12.

Lexi's dad, Dale McDavid said: "We will be doing a balloon release on Sunday in loving memory of Lexi, this will be at the tribute tree on Princess Drive. We would like anyone to attend if you can, anyone can bring a balloon to release, the more the better."

In a tribute to his daughter, he said: "Fly high my beautiful princess Lexi, I will always see you in my dreams."

A GoFundMe page to help fundraise for Lexi's funeral was set up by her mum's side of the family earlier this week to give her the "send off she deserves." A second JustGiving page, also to raise funds for Lexi's memorial was set up by her dad's side of the family, with his permission.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, family member Deen McDavid said: "Our brother lost his beautiful little girl Lexi, one of the twins. We are all devastated and in so much shock, it feels like a bad dream.

"We have opened this page to help towards giving Lexi the best of the best on her day. Lexi was a loving little girl with a huge heart and her whole life ahead of her.

"Let's get together try our best to make this tragic time that little bit easier for our family."

Tributes have flooded in for the 12-year-old, including from Gerard Peston headteacher of Broughton Hall Catholic High School, where Lexi was a pupil. He said: "Lexi was a much-loved pupil at Broughton Hall, by staff and her peers. She was a bright, articulate, funny and intelligent pupil.

"She represented the year group at numerous whole school celebrations, where she was known for her beautiful speaking voice. We offer our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to her family, friends and our school community. Lexi will be greatly missed at Broughton Hall.”

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper from Merseyside Police serious collision investigation unit said: "Our thoughts and condolences this morning are very much with the family of Lexi, who has lost her life at a tragically young age, and they are receiving the support of specialist officers.

"An investigation is ongoing and we’d ask that anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on dashcam or other devices and has yet to come forward does so as soon as possible. Your information could be vital to our investigation. Whether you come to us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, all information will be acted upon."
