Family's heartbreaking tribute to Ava White on her birthday

A heartbreaking tribute has been paid on what would have been Ava White's 14th birthday.

Ava was murdered after a Christmas lights switch on in the city centre on November 25, 2021. The 12-year-old was stabbed in the neck by 'Boy A', who was then aged 14 and cannot be named for legal reasons, after an argument about him filming her on Snapchat.

Now, on what would have been her 14th birthday, the family have paid tribute to the little girl in a heartbreaking social media post on the Ava White Foundation page. It said: "Ava, your 14th Birthday today it should of been. A day that will forever now be filled with pain.

"A mark of a year older you should of been. The hurt trying to wonder how you’d of been a beautiful young girl with a heart of gold.

"A smile that is etched in the minds of all you had known. 12 years young your life cut short how could they of done this to you will never be known.

"Always value a life. Never choose a knife. In loving memory on your heavenly birthday Ava."

Marie Ellis wrote: "Thinking of you all today.. and special birthday thoughts for your beautiful Ava..never to be forgotten."

Leanne Byrne said: "Happy heavenly birthday Ava thoughts are with all her family and friends"

Ava's older sister Mia White, 19, spoke for the first time since her murder in October last year as she paid tribute to her "funny" and "loving" sister in an interview with BBC Breakfast.

Mia told the BBC: "Ava was funny, she was loving, she was caring, she was kind. She was just how every child is at 12. Ava was just like a little light that never ever dimmed down."

Mia described her close bond with Ava, who was her "shadow." She said: "Me and Ava were really close. We told each other everything.

"Every night we'd be in each other's rooms until we went to bed. We'd just sit on the phone to our mates and sit there and laugh, take pictures, listen to music, just normal teenage sisters are.
