Family of missing Lanarkshire grandfather appeal for help to 'get him home safe and sound'

The "worried sick" family of a missing Airdrie grandfather have said his disappearance is "completely out of character".

Martin Simpson's loved ones have been out searching for the 54-year-old since he went missing on Monday morning.

Dad-of-two Martin left his keys, wallet and mobile phone at his Oatbank Street home and the alarm was raised further when he failed to show up for work.

One of Martin's daughters, Donna Cole, has made an emotional appeal for anyone with information about her dad's whereabouts to get in touch with the police.

Donna exclusively told Lanarkshire Live: "There has been no news yet; the police are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and we've all been out searching for dad, but where do you start?

"It's completely out of character for him to disappear like this. He's been absolutely fine recently and there has been nothing out of the ordinary going on in his day-to-day life.

"He has two grandchildren who he dotes on and we are just desperate to get him home safe and sound.

"It's a very worrying time. The not knowing makes you feel helpless and you start to think things like, has he fallen and been injured?; everything starts to go through your head."

Donna added: "Dad's work called yesterday to say he hadn't turned up and then we started calling close family to see if he had been with them.

"He doesn't have a car so will be on foot; surely someone, somewhere will have seen him?

"If anyone has seen dad, or knows where he might be, we urge them to please get in touch with the police as soon as possible."

Martin was last seen wearing a black body warmer with MS Decor printed on it, grey joggers, and white and silver Adidas trainers.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers, where details can be left anonymously, via 0800 555 111.
