Family hails airport ‘milestone’ after death of son overseas

  • Portable carbon monoxide (CO) alarms are now available for purchase at 14 UK airports and one railway station, including major hubs like London Gatwick and Heathrow.
  • This initiative follows a campaign by the family of Hudson Foley, who died from CO poisoning while travelling in Ecuador in August 2023.
  • The alarms are being sold through a partnership between Safelincs, the UK's largest fire safety retailer, and WH Smith, aiming to reach millions of travellers.
  • The Pack Safe Appeal, launched in August 2024, seeks to prevent further deaths from the silent killer, echoing a 2015 coroner's warning about the need for readily available CO alarms for travellers.
  • Cathy Foley, Hudson’s mother, said seeing the alarms for sale at airports is “a huge milestone for us and an incredible step in our efforts to save lives”.
