'BREAKING'

Rated PG-13 for some violent content, and strong language.

What it’s about: Based on a true story, this tense thriller follows an Atlanta bank robbery as a troubled vet uses a hostage situation to bring attention to his plight with Veterans Affairs.

The kid attractor factor: Not much, this is a somber adult drama.

Good lessons/bad lessons: When people are pushed to extremes, the situation can become explosive, and tragic.

Violence: Threats of bombings, perilous and tense situations, guns, gunfire.

Language: Some swearing throughout.

Sex: None

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: This is a heavy and tragic film. Not suitable for kids but OK for teens.

'THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING'

Rated R for some sexual content, graphic nudity and brief violence.

What it’s about: A narratologist encounters a djinn, who grants her three wishes and recounts his experience over 3,000 years, granting wishes to others and being imprisoned in a bottle.

The kid attractor factor: This is a very cerebral drama about storytelling and the human condition — not much to attract kids.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Our desires make us human and most humans desire love.

Violence: Some war violence, assassinations and other deaths.

Language: None

Sex: Graphic nudity and a couple of sexual encounters and references to sex.

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: A bit too mature and heady for kids. OK for teens if they are interested.
