Falcons sign 3 players, including K Blair Walsh

He’s not Matt Bryant, but he may do for now. The Falcons announced today that they have signed former Vikings and Seahawks kicker Blair Walsh. Atlanta also signed defensive tackle Stefan Charles and tight end Thomas Duarte. To make room, the team released three undrafted rookies: guard Tommy Doles and wide receivers Shawn Bane and Khalil Lewis.

Walsh played his college football at Georgia, where he hit 76 of 103 field goals and 184 of 185 extra-point attempts.

He was a sixth-round pick by Minnesota in the 2012 NFL draft. Walsh played 73 games with the Vikings over the next five years, connecting on 133 of 158 field goal attempts (84.2 percent). Walsh infamously whiffed on a chip shot in the 2015 playoffs that cost Minnesota a victory against Seattle. He spent the 2017 season with the Seahawks, but he only made 21 of 29 kicks. He was not with an NFL team last year.

The Falcons haven’t released Giorgio Tavecchio, so he still has a chance to save his job. He’s just 4 of 8 on field goal attempts this preaseason.
