On Monday, during an end-of-the-season press conference, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank told reporters that backup QB Matt Schaub has officially retired.

Schaub’s 16-year NFL career is pretty impressive in totality. While younger fans will probably always think of him as Matt Ryan’s backup, Schaub was once known as the talented backup to Michael Vick.
After playing well in relief of Vick, the Houston Texans traded for Schaub in 2007, where he was a starter for seven seasons. For his career, Schaub has spent time with the Falcons, Texans, Ravens, and Raiders. He’s played in 155 games with 93 starts, throwing for 25,467 passing yards, 136 touchdowns, 91 interceptions, and a passer rating of 89.5.
Schaub’s departure leaves an opening for a backup quarterback in Atlanta, which Kurt Benkert is the most likely candidate to fill after signing a futures contract on Monday.
