Falcons' Freeman out of concussion protocol, cleared for full practice

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. _ Falcons running back Devonta Freeman is out of the NFL's concussion protocol program and has been cleared for full practice, coach Dan Quinn said Tuesday.

Quinn made the announcement before the practice session.

Freeman, who was in the league's concussion protocol for more than two weeks, recently said he hoped to return and face some contact before the start of the regular season. However, Freeman will not play in the exhibition season finale against the Jaguars at Thursday at 7 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The decision on Freeman's playing status was made before he cleared the program.

The Falcons initially thought Freeman had heat-related issues. About an hour and 20 minutes into an Aug. 13 practice, he went inside the training facility and had concussion like symptoms.

Freeman missed a game during the 2015 season after suffering a concussion against the Colts on Nov. 22.
