PATHUM THANI: Police raided a house in Muang district on Wednesday and arrested three Myanmar citizens for allegedly brewing counterfeit whiskey worth more than 10 million baht in the market.
Authorities used a search warrant approved by the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court to raid the house and confiscated 200 crates of spirits, with several brand names, and around 1,000 bottles with blank labels.
Deputy tourist police chief Surachet Hakpal estimated the market price of the seized whiskey at around 10 million baht.
Three Myanmar men - identified only as Kuanou, 23, Leng, 23, and Pae, 21 - were arrested and charged with possessing products with fake trademarks for commercial purposes. If found guilty, they could face a maximum of five years in jail or a fine worth four times of the market price of the products, or both.
Pol Maj Gen Surachet said the fake whiskey was intended to be sold online or to restaurants.
The crackdown followed a February raid at a house in Bang Khae district in Bangkok which uncovered 60 crates of fake whiskey.
Pol Maj Gen Surachet said police found a connection between the two.
