Fagan extends Brisbane AFL coaching deal

Brisbane AFL coach Chris Fagan has his eyes on a premiership after extending his contract for two years until 2023.

The former Hawthorn football boss has helped turn the Lions from wooden spooners into premiership contenders after back-to-back second-place finishes since arriving in 2017.

Early exits from those finals campaigns have driven the squad though and Fagan, who was an assistant with Melbourne when they reached the 2000 decider, is intent on finishing the job.

"I love the fact that at the Brisbane Lions we are all in this together, everyone at the Club shares the same drive to constantly improve," he said.

"It is why I know the preliminary-final loss last year, while disappointing, is also viewed as a growth opportunity.

"That is what we have been doing since the day I arrived here, seeing each experience as something to learn from.

"And I'm excited to have committed to the Club for a few more years to see where that desire to improve can take us."

Lions boss Greg Swann said Fagan was revered by his players and had made a huge impact as an ambassador for the code in Queensland.
