Factory toxic emissions inspections to start Friday

The Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) will start inspecting factories on Friday under a plan to control toxic emissions, focusing on plants burning coal, fuel oil and wood.

Maj Gen Thanathip Sawangsaeng, the Isoc spokesman, said on Thursday the checks follow an order by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to solve air pollution, especially particulate matter of 2.5 micrometres or less in diameter.

Provincial Isoc staff would do the inspections together with teams from local environmental, industrial, administrative, police and peace-keeping units.

The inspectors would focus on factories most likely to emit severe air pollution, especially plants that burn coal, fuel oil and wood, and plants that have cooling systems and melt metal, Maj Gen Thanathip said.
