Facebook music: How to add songs to your Facebook Stories

Facebook has announced it's adding new music features to the platform.

The social media company has launched Music on Facebook Stories for the 300 million people who use Facebook Stories every day, so they can now add songs to the photos and videos they post. Similar to the Music on Instagram Stories feature launched earlier this year, the idea is that this allows users to share more of their personality on Facebook.

In a blog post explaining the new features, Facebook said: “Moments are remembered and accentuated with music, and we can’t wait to see all the ways people around the world get creative with these features, make memories, and have fun with friends and family.”

How to add songs to Facebook Stories

  1. Take a photo or video from the Facebook camera or upload one from your camera roll
  2. Tap the sticker icon and select the music sticker
  3. Find the song you want to add, and the right part of the song you want to share, and add the sticker with the artists and song name to your post
  4. You can then customise your story with other stickers and effects and then you’re ready to go

Facebook is facing the music

Music on Facebook Stories isn’t the only new musical feature that Facebook is incorporating.

The company is rolling out Lip Sync Live to all profiles around the world. Lip Sync Live is the company’s Musical.ly/TikTok competitor, which lets people choose their favourite song and broadcast a cute video of them singing along live.

British singer Jess Glynne used the feature recently to preview her new single, Thursday.

In an update, your followers can now see the lyrics to the songs so they can join in too.

How Facebook's Lip Sync Live feature looks (Facebook)

Facebook is reportedly looking into turning Lip Sync Live into its own stand-alone app. It makes sense: Tik Tok is much-adored around the world, as it hit 500 million users earlier this year, and is overwhelmingly popular with young people who aren’t using Facebook as much anymore.

As well as taking on Tik Tok, Facebook is also turning to another social media network for inspiration for its final music feature: MySpace.

In the next few months you will be able to add songs to your Facebook profile, in the same way you used to be able to add songs to your MySpace profile. This feature will be rolling out soon, but Facebook says when someone plays a song on your profile, they will hear a clip of the song and see an accompanying video of the artist and their album artwork.

Let’s hope this feature doesn’t autoplay: there was nothing more frustrating with MySpace than someone’s terrible song choice autoplaying when you visited their profile.
