Fabrice Muamba admits Christian Eriksen's Euro 2020 collapse 'brought it back'

Former Premier League star Fabrice Muamba has revealed that watching Christian Eriksen collapse during a Euro 2020 match "brought back stuff that I have put down in me".

The ex-Bolton ace also collapsed on a pitch, during an FA Cup clash with Spurs in March 2012. He almost died after his heart stopped beating for over an hour.

And he admitted that it was "scary" seeing Eriksen fall to the ground on Saturday, during Denmark's match with Finland.

The match was halted as the 29-year-old received treatment, as distressed players and fans watched on. He appeared to be awake as he was stretchered off.

The Inter Milan star's condition has since stabilised with the Danish Football Association confirming he's "awake" in hospital.

However, the incident brought back hard memories for Muamba, whose own collapse ultimately ended a promising career.

Watching it unfold, he tweeted "please god".

Since then, he's told BBC News that the "first five or six minutes, God, I'm telling you man, it is horrible."

"It brought back stuff that I have put down in me, the emotions I have just had deep down in there and never wanted to relive it again," Muamba added.

"To watch it from that distance and not knowing what was going to happen - it's scary."

Saturday's Group B match was later restarted at the request of both teams, with Finland beating Denmark 1-0.

Denmark head coach Kasper Hjulmand was tearful as he told the post-match press conference: "It was a really tough evening, on which we've all been reminded what the most important things in life are.

"It's meaningful relationships. It's those people who are close to us. It's family and friends,"
