Xbox has delayed Fable to February 2027, citing the need to move Playground Games’ RPG out of an already crowded 2026 release calendar.
Xbox shared the new launch window while pointing to a busy year for its players. The console’s 2026 calendar includes Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Grand Theft Auto VI. With that many major releases coming out this year, Fable is now getting its own slot in early 2027.

The delay is supposed to give Fable more space than it would have had in the final months of 2026, especially since Grand Theft Auto VI is set for Nov. 19.
While the players will have to wait for 2027 to play the game, Xbox confirmed that we’ll get a new look at Fable during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, where Microsoft will also show some other upcoming projects.
It’s unclear if the delay has anything to do with the game’s content, but the wording in the announcement clearly indicates this is purely a scheduling decision. However, the Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan has said before that the team wanted to give the game more time in the oven and said the initial delay from 2025 to 2026 was being made for the benefit of the game and the studio. While we’ll see the state Fable is in at the Xbox Showcase, this delay should still give the devs some additional time to do the final polishing and QA pass, or fix some outstanding issues.
Fable is being developed by Playground Games, the studio best known for Forza Horizon, whose latest installment has already reached staggering success. You can read our Forza Horizon 6 review here.
The reboot was announced in 2020 and brings the series back after years away from mainline releases. It is set in Albion and keeps the franchise’s fantasy setting, dry humor, moral choices, and fairy-tale tone.
