Fabio Capello pays huge compliment to Liverpool after Benfica clash

Liverpool have been lauded by former England manager Fabio Capello following their performance against Benfica on Wednesday night.

The Reds secured their place in the Champions league semi-finals with a 6-4 aggregate win over the Portuguese side at Anfield. Despite Benfica pushing a much-changed Liverpool side to a draw on home turf, the club will now face Villarreal in the quest for their seventh European Cup.

One person who was left impressed by Jurgen Klopp ’s side was former Champions league-winning manager Fabio Capello. The Italian coach gave his verdict on the Reds after their draw with Benfica and was asked if Liverpool currently possess the best attack in Europe.

“It’s the most entertaining one,” he told Sky Sport Italia . “When they put the ball in the box, there isn’t a player who isn’t ready to score. At Anfield, they fulfil their attacking mentality in the best possible way.”

It is not the first time that Capello has praised Liverpool this season, though it is a relatively recent change of stance. In February, ahead of the Reds facing Inter Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League, the ex-England boss questioned the strength of this Liverpool side.

“The current Liverpool is not the same side it was a few months ago," Capello said . "Klopp said it was his strongest team? Well, he would say that, what do you expect him to say?”

However, after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup last month, the 75-year-old urged his country to follow the Liverpool boss’ style of play . “Italian football has imitated Guardiola for 15 years,” he said.

“There were no vertical passes or physical strength, there is no habit to making challenges. On the other hand, we should follow Jurgen Klopp’s playing style.”
